
MEIS Scheme (DGFT)- Merchandise Exports From India Scheme
The government aims to increase export under the new five-year Foreign Trade Policy, in order to provide incentives to the exporters of goods and services. The schemes like- MEIS scheme (Merchandise Export Incentive Scheme ) and SEIS scheme are introduced. The scheme aimed to offset infrastructural inefficiencies and associated costs involved in export of goods/services. Merchandise Exporter ( including SEZ Units and EOU Units not availing Direct Taxation benefits ) is covered under the MEIS scheme DGFT which is eligible for rewards in the form of ‘Duty Credit Scrip’s. Duty credit scrip is freely transferable and can be used for the payment of excise duty, custom duty and service tax. Incentives range from 2% to 5% which is valid for 18 months from the date it is issued and must be valid on the date on the date on which actual debit of duty is made. The incentive and rewards are given under this scheme varies from product to product and from country to country.
